Do you think it will be hard for the GOP to take credit in helping the economy turn around? What specific program can they say that without their support this would not have been possible? Do you beleive that the argument will be " See, doing nothing and adding nothing works"?

If you watched the Q & A session with the GOP, you will see what the President meant when he said the GOP has left themselves little or no room for compromise.

Only problem with the new figures is once you take out the inventory adjustment the growth drops to 2.2 percent which no doubts is better then nothing but the numbers are a little deceiving. We wont see good growth for 2-3 years because unemployment is going to remain high during this time. Both sides are to blame for what has happened but now we must pay the price.

In what has turned out to be a global recession, I don't beleive any thing we would have done over the past 2-3 years would have changed things to any great extent. This does however point out what american politics has come to, a blame game. We win if we convince people that it was your fault not ours.

Neither the Democrats nor the Republicans worked 12 hour days to improve productivity and generate wealth. It is the hard working business owners and their employees that make the difference in the economy. The politicians just want us to think it is them so they can claim a reason for their existence.

"Irrational attitudes cannot flourish when rational methods of argument are seriously practiced." R. M. Hare

This is the quote I have as a header on my column. I cannot think of a better example of this thought ever put into practice than how the President has done.

They definitely won't give Obama ANY credit for this....but they'll blame the entire recession on him.....even though it started before he took office.

They started blaming Obama before he even took office. As soon as he won the election they started referring to the ongoing downturn in the economy as the "Obama economy" and tried to link him to everything bad that was happening before he even took the oath of office.

And when they were faced with a 100% rational argument, it was like in the old cartoons, where the robot starts pouring smoke out of its dome! The had absolutely NO response to him. If they would have opened their mouths to argue, the whole world would have seen they were devoid of ideas. Which, for the most part, they are.

On the economy. Great news, however it's spun. Growth is growth, And if it improves more, it looks like we'll have a rational President for a while longer!

Be prepared on this seed for the wingnuts to come on and say it has nothing to do with Obama, it's the Illuminati that did it. Or the Martians. Or all credit goes to their Great Leader, Rush Limbaugh. He made this happen.

I don't think I heard the President trying to take credit for anything, but he was showing the GOP that they have left themselves no ability at all to share in the credit. They are more concerned with not being blamed with anything than at the very least being able to point to bi-partisanship as a reason for any success what so ever.

I would love to hear one of them (mostly Obama) give credit where credit is due. The credit belongs to the people working long hard days, investing their security and creating wealth for the politicians to use as a political football.

Clint, I'm quite sure he does at every opportunity. Unlike the GOP who blame all the unemplyment recipients, medicare beneficiaries, 1st time home buyers, clunker traders, you name it for all the ills that bereft us. Oh yeah, that just about includes all of us hard working americans.

Positive

In President Obama's State of the Union:

So we face big and difficult challenges. And what the American people hope – what they deserve – is for all of us, Democrats and Republicans, to work through our differences; to overcome the numbing weight of our politics. For while the people who sent us here have different backgrounds, different stories and different beliefs, the anxieties they face are the same. The aspirations they hold are shared. A job that pays the bills. A chance to get ahead. Most of all, the ability to give their children a better life.

You know what else they share? They share a stubborn resilience in the face of adversity. After one of the most difficult years in our history, they remain busy building cars and teaching kids; starting businesses and going back to school. They’re coaching little league and helping their neighbors. As one woman wrote me, “We are strained but hopeful, struggling but encouraged.”

It is because of this spirit – this great decency and great strength – that I have never been more hopeful about America’s future than I am tonight. Despite our hardships, our union is strong. We do not give up. We do not quit. We do not allow fear or division to break our spirit. In this new decade, it’s time the American people get a government that matches their decency; that embodies their strength.

Positive, he talks about the struggle and the strength of those struggling but he still doesn't seem to understand who makes it happen. He didn't and doesn't acknowledge the role of the private sector. He thinks government is the source and solution for everything. When the economy finally recovers we can be sure he will take credit for it and if it doesn't you can be sure people of like mind will blame him for it.

To say that the economy is growing at the fastest rate may be accurate, but for those who invest in the market place and do not recoup thier losses what good is it? Those with money to invest Wall street...ect...will be the winners here. The market place was at 16000, now at around 10000...so we are nowhere close to where we were, and for many of us that would be the break even point.

Statistical analysis based on the Eliiot wave system developed from the great depression show the economy moves in waves, if correct then wave three is coming that which will then see a very large drop in the market place to levels unseen in a long time. The drops projected would be based on current Government spending habits....looking similar to an FDR in which 8 years later 17 percent unemployement existed. Although with a move towards a more conservative style of spending, ie, not focusing on spending a trillion for healthcare, leaning to a republican just say no policy may not even help..

.but Obama is President what happens during his term is and should be put on him...yes the responsibility goes squarely on his shoulders.....he knew how he Dodd and the other Denmocrats like Maxine Watters...were angry for Republicans suggesting oversight at fannie mae.....he knew what was comming....so if he did not want the take responsibilty for what happens during hios term he should not have ran...this is his time...his responsibilty

I'm a republican and I don't see him running from responsibilty. I do see him trying to show both parties how we are not gaining anything from all the finger-pointing going on today. When he was talking about the retoric going around about the current health proposals, I was really hoping he would bring up the death panel charges. To his credit he stayed above that. But as a republican, I was ashamed at the party using such obvious incendiary language. My mother is 83 and the things she was hearing was scaring the sh*t out her. I have said for years, we have lost our moral compass, and I applaud and support anyone trying to bring it back.

I guess it depends on how you are at understanding the words that you read.

If you deposited $1000.00 in your checking, but at the same time paid bills totaling $1000.00, there would be no net increase in your check book. However, had you not deposited that money and still paid your bills..... do you see what would happen to you?

By the way, you do realize that not all of the stimulus money is in effect yet, don't you?

Where did you get the $1000 to deposit into your checking account ?

Massive government spending to support the economy provided no net boost to overall growth

Mercy how much plainer does it have to be spelled out . The government spending provided no benefit.

Wild, its obvious to me you are clueless. I have seen your other posts in other articles and am pleased to see I am not alone in that opinion. I will not comment anymore to any of your posts. Its obvious you lack the necessary tools to carry on a debate of any kind.

I read the transcript of his meeting with the Republicans and I will say this Obama can lie with the best of them. He may be as skilled at lying as Clinton .

Thats why the GOP just sat there and offered no argument. Wild, if I were prone to hit the ignore button, You would be a good reason. But I never have. Mostly because most people finally say something of merit. I'll wait you out.
